About

Emily Kohls is an artist, art historian, feminist, and Kansas native.

She began her academic career in 2015 when she attended Hutchinson Community College, earning her Associate of Art in 2017. She went on to attend Fort Hays State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art (Studio Art) in 2020 and later her Master of Liberal Studies in Art in 2023.

As an artist, Kohls creates feminist Pop art-inspired mixed media paintings and occasionally digital illustrations, while her interest in art history is mainly focused on women artists and the representation of women in art. She currently works as the Media Manager for an art center in central Kansas as well as a substitute teacher for a local school district. Her dream job is to be involved in the educational and/or curatorial side of art museums and galleries while continuing to create art on the side.

Besides her artistic pursuits, she loves to snuggle with her cats and listen to music or read a good book. Her favorite kinds of books are biographies and memoirs, and her favorite genre of music is 90s alternative rock.
